Competition process

To be eligible, organists must have been born no earlier than 1 January 1987.

A - Preselection  :

Online registration must be completed between Monday, 13 February, and Friday 14 April 2017, under the heading "inscription > registration".
Candidates will need to submit the following when registering:

1. The music programme for a concert (lasting a maximum of 50 to 55 minutes), created for one of the organs of the Xavier Darasse competition in Toulouse.
The organs available are : 
- the organ of the Saint-Sernin Basilica
- the organ of the Saint-Étienne Cathedral
- the organ of the Church of Notre-Dame la Dalbade
- the organ of the Museum "Les Augustins"
- the organ of the Church of Saint-Pierre des Chartreux

2. A digital recording (in MP3 format) of a part of the programme, lasting 20 to 25 minutes. The candidate may choose any selection of extracts. These extracts should be sent by WeTransfer link to the following address
3. An online registration form to be completed on this website, as well as the various administrative documents listed below: :
- copy of a valid ID document
- the proposed concert with timing, together with a text presenting the programme of no more than 2000 characters, in either French or English
- a statement certifying that the recording is not a copy of another performance, and that it has not been altered artificially in any way.
- 1 biography of 1000 characters
- 1 good quality, high definition photograph, free of any copyright.

=> The Jury will shortlist 12 contestants for the Semi-Final, and all contestants will be informed of the Jury’s decision in early June 2017.

B - Semi-Finals in Toulouse (Wednesday 4 and Thursday 5 October 2017)

The Semi-Finals will consist of a public performance on the organ chosen by the candidate and will take place in the presence of the Jury.
The programme will last 20 to 25 minutes and again will be composed of extracts from the final programme. It must include at least 10 minutes of music that was not included in the recording submitted for pre-selection.  
The Jury will choose four candidates for the final.

C - Final in Toulouse (Saturday 7 October 2017)

The Finals will consist of a public performance in the presence of the Jury.
It must consist of the entire concert programme originally submitted, as a part of the 22nd International Toulouse les Orgues Festival.

D - Financial assistance and presence of the candidates in Toulouse

> The 12 candidates selected for the Semi-Final must be present in Toulouse from 1 October to 5 October 2017 (rehearsals and Semi-Finals).
> The four candidates for the Final will need to extend their stay to include 6 and 7 October (rehearsals and Final).  
> Financial assistance will be available to help contestants with travel and accommodation, to a maximum of €300. A list of accommodation options as well as practical information to help contestants organise their stay will be available on this website.
