Theo Jellema

He was born in the north of Holland in 1955 and from early youth impressed by the beautiful organs in this region.

He studied organ with Wim van Beek at the conservatory in Groningen and earned his soloist’s diploma with honours in 1978. In addition to his duties as organist of the Grote Kerk in Leeuwarden (monumental Christian Müller organ 1727) and as organ teacher at the conservatories in Groningen and Zwolle, he has an extensive concert practice which has taken him to a great number of countries in Europe and to Japan. He performed several series of “complete works” : César Franck 1990, Messiaen 1999, Bach 2000.

Theo Jellema gives master-class all over Europe and serves frequently as jury member for organ competitions. He has recorded CDs on important historical organs and leads an international organ trip each year. He works in Holland as an advisor for the restoration of historical organs.
