Geerten Liefting

Geerten Liefting (Nijkerk, December 1983) studied Organ and Improvisation at the Utrecht Conservatory with Reitze Smits. He also studied Composition and Choral conducting at the Royal Conservatory in Antwerpen and Rotterdam with Wim Henderickx, Luc van Hove and Peter Jan Wagemans. During the last ten years, he also studied improvisation with Cor Ardesch and Hayo Boerema.

In 2013 Geerten won the International Hinsz Composition Competition in Kampen. In 2015, Geerten won the International Improvisation Competition in Schwaebisch-Gmünd and in 2016, he was unanimously chosen as the winner of the International Improvisation Competition in Haarlem.

Since 2007, he has been titular organist of the St. Bonaventura church in Woerden and assistant organist of the Grote of Sint-Laurenskerk in Rotterdam.
Geerten often performs as organist at well-known venues, like Festival Voor de Wind. He has also performed with the Laurenscantorij and the Netherlands Wind Ensemble. He is particularly known for his improvisation recitals with silent films.
