Jacob Lekkerkerker is an improvising musician, composer, and organist. He studied organ and improvisation at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague and improvisation with Loïc Mallié and Ansgar Wallenhorst. He received numerous awards, including the Sweelinck-Muller Prize, the Jur Naessens Music Prize for musical adventurers, and the Prix Spécial Englert-Marchal for improvisation. He is considered a pioneer for his combinations of classical organ with electronic sound, using analogue modulation modules and DJ-gear, and for uniting artists from various disciplines in concerts with organ. He is currently developing the concept ‘Cathedral Mobile’, a project blending blends organ improvisation with electronic music, improvised and ambient music.
Jacob Lekkerkerker was educated as an art historian and philosopher as well, and has been a Lecturer for Arthistory at Avans University Breda from 2005 to 2013. He is currently organist-titulair and curator music at the Oude Kerk in Amsterdam.
